In this week’s employee spotlight, we speak with Dave Murran. Dave is a Project Manager here at LPI Group and is one of the longest-serving members of the operations team.

Dave is a Project Manager for some of LPI Group’s largest Irish mission-critical projects and oversees the installation of our turnkey earthing and lightning protection systems.

In our conversation, Dave discusses:

  • His role
  • How his career led him to join LPI Group
  • What part of his role gives him the most excitement?
  • His favourite thing about working with LPI Group
  • What hobbies and interests he has away from delivering high-performance lightning protection systems?

Give us a brief overview of your role?

In my role as a Project Manager at LPI Group, I lead lightning protection and earthing system installations for data centre and pharmaceutical projects across Ireland.

Managing a skilled crew, I ensure the seamless execution of both internal and external earthing and lightning protection systems. I collaborate closely with main contractors, sub-contractors, and clients on behalf of our site teams, and this is integral to achieving project success.

I get hands-on alongside the lads on-site ensuring the best-in-class installations of our systems for our clients. This also ties into my responsibilities of ensuring that project milestones are achieved on a weekly and monthly basis.

How did you come to join LPI Group?

Having initially started my career in lightning protection system installation, my journey led me to LPI Group.

I’m a friend of Eoin (Operations Director) and he approached me to join the LPI team over eight years ago to oversee the project delivery on-site. I’ve naturally transitioned into the project manager role through experiences gained on-site from managing the installations on data centre, pharmaceutical, and commercial projects In Ireland.

The company’s commitment to excellence and innovation aligned with my values therefore joining LPI was a natural and fulfilling progression for me.

What’s the most exciting aspect of your role?

The constant learning experience is great. Each project brings new challenges and collaborating with diverse teams, clients, and contractors keeps things dynamic. The opportunity for international projects adds an extra layer of excitement, being able to grow personally and professionally as the company expands (which is a lot in the last 2 or 3 years!).

When the business initially ventured into Sweden in 2019, the Directors entrusted me to lead our team in Gävle to deliver our first Data Centre in the region. It was a great and exciting opportunity to deliver our first project in Sweden and set the benchmark for what LPI continues to achieve in Sweden.

It’s great to see the activity up in the region including the opening of our office in 2022 and the visit of the Irish Ambassador to Sweden to our offices recently.

I’m proud I was there to lay the foundations of our project delivery and standards.

Your favourite thing about working with LPI Group?

Undoubtedly, my favourite aspect of working with LPI Group is the outstanding company culture and the exceptional people within the company. It’s a supportive community where everyone is driven towards success. The togetherness and shared commitment to excellence create an environment where you genuinely enjoy coming to work every day.

Away from work, what do you like to do?

Outside of work, I prioritise quality time with my partner Niamh and our two sons, Alfie, and Lennon. Balancing my professional and personal life is crucial for me.

Additionally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle includes regular visits to the gym, trying to get there at least 4 times per week. When time allows, I like to enjoy a round of golf with my friends to unwind.
